On to Sochi in 2014

The Olympics were great weren’t they?  It was nice to see the USA at the top of the medal count.

The Russians are peeved at their top Olympic sports officials and have asked them all to resign or be fired.  The next Winter Games are in Sochi, a resort on the Black Sea, and you can bet they’ll earn more than the 15 medals earned in Vancouver, their lowest ever.  This showing was such an embarrassment to Russia that Medvedev wasn’t even in Vancouver to accept the transfer of the Olympic flag.  The bear is growling.  This is gonna be like old times.

The gold medal hockey game was the most watched hockey game since the gold medal game in 1980.  Although I was pulling for the USA it is probably fitting that Canada took home the gold.  The story was too good all the way around for it not to happen.

And a final point on hockey, the rules need to be changed for the gold medal game.  If the game goes into overtime it should be the survival of the fittest and stay 5 on 5.  Play until someone wins just like for the Stanley Cup.  Going to 4 on 4 in OT for the final game dilutes the effort of both teams.  The players are too good and there is too much open ice.  This format works for the prelim rounds for the sake of time and completing the tournament, but not the final.  Let them play.

It’s now back to Modern Family.
